Why I take photographs

It’s the time I feel whole, complete, real.   Looking through my lens, focused on the shape, texture and light, that’s when I feel at peace.

A peaceful silence of my soul.

The click of the shutter, the mechanical rasp of the machine in my hands that has become a part of me. It is an extension of my mind, my body, my soul.

Photography opens the dark spots and allows the beauty of life to flood inside.  It’s a state of temporary grace where I am forgiven my failures and can find peace for 1/1000th of a second at a time.

I can forget life and be lost in the petal of a flower or the glow of a ray of light.  The one time when even the self-doubts are quiet and satisfied.

Focus, adjust, click.   Peace.

It’s that simple.
